Solar Tariff Changes - Impacts for Landlords and Tenants

Jacana Energy has significantly dropped the tariff for properties with solar panels, once the existing tenant moves out.

Jacana Energy Solar Tariff Changes

You may have missed this change to tariffs amongst the global pandemic and responses to COVID-19.  However, these changes are likely to have an impact on tenancies in the NT over the next few years.

Tenants moving into a new property after the 5th of April will have their tariff go from approx. 24c per kWh to 8c per kWh – a 66% decrease in the solar feed-in-tariff.

Even if the property was under the premium tariff prior to the 5th of April, if the resident changes, the tariff will drop from 24c to 8c.

The result for investors is that there is less savings for new tenants to have in properties that have solar.  This may then place some downward pressure on the rents on those properties with solar.

Is it worth getting solar in your property with the reduced tariffs?  That’s a decision you’ll need to make based on the factors important to you.  We’re more than happy to talk through the pros and cons with you. Give Michelle a call on 08 8930 6600 for more information.
